Glassy seas, hazy skies, and reports of whales coming in from every direction. We opted for a northern route today, seeking out the calmest conditions and the least busy waterways. It was the right call! We spent a truly serene afternoon with the T46Bs, a family of eight Bigg’s killer whales with three calves in the mix. This family traveled side by side, gently swimming against the flood tide west of Alden Bank. One of the babies came over for a surprise hello, taking our breath away, and then swam back to mom’s side. What a memorable day!

We also enjoyed the company of bald eagles at Guemes and Ewing Islands, Steller Sea Lions near Sinclair Island, dozens of harbor seals at Clements Reef, harbor porpoises near Cypress and many pigeon guillemots near shore.

It's always such a treat spending time with members of our Bigg's Killer Whale population here in the Salish Sea. If you've always wanted to share space with these beautiful apex predators, check out our full day tour on July 16th, a 6-7 hour day that allows for a larger search range and more time with whales. This tour guarantees orcas, so it's perfect for guests that are looking for a killer whale fix!
