As we left the marina the seas were calm and the wild life was plentiful. A belted kingfisher was out fishing along the break waters as sea stars made their way down the pilings. Great blue herons hunted the shallows and a harbor seal was making its way out to deeper water. We headed down Rosario and watched a couple eagles fighting mid air before continuing to Colville Island. Here we found a bob of harbor seals and another bald eagle before we headed west.
Along the Lopez shores we found a tufted puffins which was quite the surprise and we lucked out again at Salmon bank with a brown pelican. We had a brief sighting of a minke whale before heading up Haro Strait and joining humpback whale Graze and possibly her newest calf. After a beautiful time with them we headed through the San Juan islands and returned to Anacortes.
