With the winds behind us we set out onto flat calm seas to begin our adventure this morning. We headed south in Rosario Strait before making our first stop at Colville Island to check out some harbor seals and a mature bald eagle. We got a report after that to the south and headed that way to join up with some orca whales. They turned out to be the T65Bs, traveling north of Smith Island and slowly headed for Lopez Island. After many great looks we headed to the eastern marker of Lawson reef and found a couple of Steller sea lions lounging on a marker Buoy. We headed back to the orcas after that as they traveled north along the Lummi Island shore line and up Rosario Strait. We headed out to Bird Rocks and found a marbles murrelet and a bunch of gulls and cormorants.
Heading back out once again into the fray we made our first stop along the south shoreline of Cypress Island. Here we spotted an adult bald eagle and had some great views of a Washington State Ferry heading into Thatcher Pass. We headed across Rosario and cruised up the Blakely Island shoreline toward Pea Vine Pass. Just outside the pass we found dozens of harbor porpoises and a nice little bob of harbor seals. We headed through Peavine Pass and found two adult bald eagles before heading down to Frost Island where we joined the T65Bs. We cruised with them all the way up and around Upright Head and into Upright Channel. We eventually waved goodbye to the orcas and made our way back to Anacortes!
