Another hot day had the entire area in its clutches as we headed out into the Salish Sea this morning. We began to see harbor porpoise and sea birds in Guemes and Rosario Strait before continuing south to Colville Island. Here we found a few marbled murrelets and a nice group of harbor seals. As we went to leave the island a large Steller sea lion popped up off our port side for a few breaths before it disappeared. We headed west after that and scouted the many shallow banks of the Juan de Fuca. Near Coyote Bank we joined the T65B'S and some of the T49A's as they were just finishing up a meal. This got the younger whales excited and we were treated to a couple breaches and some tail slapping. We headed east after that passing some more harbor porpoise and harbor seals. Cruising back into the heat of the Anacortes day and waving goodbye to our guests.

Heading out to escape the heat and misery of the mainland, we pushed north around Guemes Island toward the strait of Georgia. Along the way we passed a few harbor porpoises and many jumping fish. As we neared Clark Island we found ourselves on scene with Black Pearl's calf from last year. At first this young humpback was very low profile but soon its behavior changed and as we were waving goodbye it began to breach and splash around. It breached several times and rolled around waving its pectoral fins all over the place. We got a great show before finally heading a little further to Puffin Island where we joined the T75B'S with their newest calf and guest orca whales T65A5 Indy. They slapped their tails and played around as they traveled south together. Soon they were within a half mile of the humpback and we could decide where to look. It was a beautiful time with both species and although there were no interactions it was exciting to see them so close. We headed south to Vidi Rocks after leaving the whales and found some harbor seals enjoying the hot summer day before we continued back to Cap Sante marina.
