We had a lovely afternoon with the T123s! This family of four Bigg’s killer whales was working south along the eastern Waldron Island shoreline, spreading out in search of prey. At one point, we thought they may have found something, as Lucky and Darcy kept circling one spot. It’s unclear whether they grabbed a seal or not, but their bahevior change certainly indicated potential hunting behavior. It’s always special to spend time with this tight knit family.
We enjoyed a wildlife stop at White Rock, where dozens of harbor seals were hauled out and a lone Steller sea lion was lounging. We even found a bald eagle perched atop some driftwood, watching the waters below where pigeon guillemots were swimming.
Our route to and from whales took us on a scenic journey through the San Juans. We took Thatcher and Wasp passes, enjoying stunning coastal views and smooth seas.
