Another false summer came and went this week, but we had an amazing gray day with gray whales! Starting our trip we saw some common loons and cormorants before heading South in Rosario Strait. We spotted some harbor porpoise near Burrows Island and continued our search down toward Deception Pass. On our way through the pass we found a lone harbor seals and started to see more and more pigeon guillemots zooming around.
As we passed Hope island we found an adult bald eagle before continuing into Saratoga Passage. Captain Carl found us one of our favorite whale as we neared the north side of Camano Island. It was gray whale #53 known as Little Patch and we got to spend some amazing time with him. After great surface time, we headed back to the north and continued our search. As we reached the end of the trip Carl found us a bob of harbor seals hauled out on a local dock. It is always a treat to see Little Patch, after 16 years, knowing he is still around really makes trips like this so special.
