A gray day... literally! We enjoyed three gray whales on our whale watching adventure.

Today was a most excellent day to be on the high seas of the Salish. We found a bald eagle on Blakely Island as we headed through Thatcher Pass before spotting another juvenile eagle on Deadman's Island. Stopping at Whale Rocks, we got our fill of Steller Sea lions on the rocks and in the water. We also got some great looks at two more adult bald eagles.

We searched out into the Strait of Juan de Fuca, eastbound to the shores of Whidbey Island where we found not one but three gray whales!!! They were in heavy feeding mode, and although we did not identify them, we got some great looks at their flukes. Without the photos in the ID guide we will send these out to the greater community of researchers to hopefully get some ideas of who we saw. We swung up to Deception Pass after that before returning to Anacortes. It was a fantastic second adventure to start the 2025 season!
