May 14, 2026 | 1 PM Whale Watch

We headed to Lopez Island for the first stop of the day where Captain Carl found us a gray whale! It was very surface active and feeding in waters that were around 20 feet deep or so. We hung with it for a while before expanding our search to the north up Rosario Strait, Bellingham Channel, and into Bellingham Bay.

Heading up Bellingham Channel we found an adult bald eagle and multiple groups of harbor porpoise. As we neared Eliza Island in Bellingham Bay we found a nice bob of harbor seals before continuing our search. We made our way over toward Sinclair Island and for a while we were very entertained by a group of Steller sea lions fighting over positions on a large navigation buoy.

Our search then brought us north toward the Strait of Georgia before returning south along Lummi Island. As we passed Viti Rocks, we watched an eagle swoop down and catch a fish! Unfortunately, this eagle dipped a little to far below the surface and was unable to regain flight. We made it over near the rocks and watched the eagle safely swim to shore before enjoying its catch. We headed in after that, having completed a great trip!
