Another storm pushed through this morning and left us with an amazing day on the water. Leaving Cap Sante marina we were visited by a harbor seal before exiting the marina. Cruising along at that point we began to see harbor porpoise and a few common loons around the Guemes Channel. We continued east and found two adult bald eagles perched nicely on Upright Head. We continued south after that and gave a search in Griffin Bay before reports to the north came in. Before turning around we found a Steller sea lions eating a fish. In seconds it swallowed the fish whole and was gone!
We headed up towards Friday Harbor and found Bigg's killer whale T49C Janet/Nielson! This lone male was casually cruising and we got some great looks. We followed him for a while, enjoying the views and the beauty of the inner island area before saying goodbye. As we headed east, Captain Carl found us a couple bald eagles in Cayou Pass on Shaw Island and then found three more adult bald eagles, fighting in the air off of James Island. It was a marvelous tour full of sunshine and wonderful wildlife all around!
We were thankful for the comforts of the IE5 today with indoor heated cabins and outdoor covered areas. Mother Nature couldn't stand in the way of our awesome day with Nielson!
