It felt like fall today, especially with the new baby pumpkin in our waters! We had yet another amazing day with the T75B pod of Bigg’s killer whales. Our day began with perfect spotting conditions and a stop at Pointer Island to admire harbor seals, cormorants, and gulls. We pushed through the heart of the San Juans and enjoyed seeing the coastlines at low tide. Our sharp-eyed guests saw some harbor porpoises in the currents and a bald eagle in the trees!

Finally on the west side of Stuart Island we met up with the T75Bs. They look to be prey sharing and must have taken something down right before we got on scene. Gulls circled and we watched the whales circle for a while before continuing on. They wrapped around the tip of Stuart and headed back east. Now porpoising, we got some great looks especially of little T75B5.

Our final pass was a wild one. After a deep dive they surfaced nearby to our surprise and took our breath away! We finally said goodbye and then headed to Spieden Island. There were Mouflon Sheep and Sika deer on the hillside, and quite a few turkey vultures circling above. It was a busy day at Spieden! Our cruise home was calm and scenic, and we couldn’t have asked for a more awesome encounter with the family of orcas.
