Fueled up and ready for our next adventure, we welcomed our guests onboard and set out into the blue! We made our first stop at Bird Rocks, where a large Steller was swimming amidst the currents, harbor seals were hauled out onshore, gulls were crying out and so many birds were busy doing their thing (cormorants, harlequin ducks, pigeon guillemots, gulls, black oyster catchers, etc.). As we pushed south, salmon leapt around us and harbor porpoises teased us with brief glimpses. We spied gulls galore and rhinoceros auklets near Swirl Rocks, then passed bait ball after bait ball near Iceberg Point. There were thousands of birds between Iceberg and Salmon, it was incredible!
We caught up with the T37As just south of Salmon. Inky took our breath away with a surprise surfacing and Crinkle and Volker were spread out searching for prey. We watched the three meet back up for a quick recon before spreading out to search again. Common murres fled before them, and Crinkle’s cute kinked fin glimmered in the sunlight.
When we left the orcas, we turned back towards Salmon. Victory the humpback whale was subtly working the waters between Salmon and Iceberg, keeping a low profile. It is always a treat to see this beautiful mama. Our return cruise home to Cap Sante was smooth sailing, and we enjoyed epic views of Komo Kulshan all the way home.
