If you were on today's tour, you know this trip was out of this world! It was absolutely splendid as we left Cap Sante marina this afternoon. The sun was shining and reports were pouring in from around the Salish Sea. As we left Guemes Channel we found ourselves almost overwhelmed with the amount of whales in the area. We first observed a lone Bigg's orca whale near Bellingham channel, and instantly knew it was one our favorites T137A "Jack". No sooner had we talked about Jack's wild side, when he surprised us and breached off our port side, making a massive splash and continuing to breach!! He then took us over to his family the T137s as they were slowly northbound. We then hopped over and joined the T85s that were only a half mile away and settled in for some great looks at T85 "Eve," T85B "Ali," and T85D "Findlay Farenorth," who were being joined by T137D "Tempest."
It was a phenomenal encounter with some amazing Bigg's killer whales. We also saw harbor porpoises everywhere, mostly swimming frantically away from the two groups of orcas before we headed to Bird Rocks and left the whales. At Bird Rocks we found some harlequin ducks, pigeon guillemots, and a nice bob of harbor seals. We headed back up Rosario Strait after that and joined the T137s for one final look before cruising through Guemes Channel and making our way back to the dock.
