More warm weather was upon us, giving us the perfect day to head out to sea and ultimately find a humpback whale! We made our way west through Thatcher Pass and had a bald eagle fly right over the boat as we were cruising. Continuing through the islands we began to see harbor porpoise feeding as we neared Spieden Island. With a report north of Pender Bluff we continued west into Canada and we were soon on scene with a juvenile humpback whale.
We got some great looks at it as it cruised the shores of Prevost Island before heading to deeper waters out in the middle of the channel. Hanging out as long as we could the humpback faked us out on a few deep dives without showing flukes, but it was still great to see. We waved goodbye as it continued north and headed back to the east, stopping at Spieden Island which was a happening spot today. Green point was covered by some big Steller sea lions and above, large herds of mouflon rams were grazing on the lush spring greens of Spieden Island. We continued back through the islands from there making our way back to Anacortes.
