With a second round of winter hitting the northwest, we headed out on a mighty adventure. Spring showers were here but that didn't stop us from having awesome whale and wildlife encounters! Heading south in Rosario and Burrows Bay we headed into Deception Pass and spotted a couple of bald eagles before continuing into Saratoga Passage. As we cruised the pass we spotted some seals and another bald eagle on Bird Rocks before stopping to check out a California sea lion outside of the La Conner Slough.
Our search continued down past Strawberry Point on Whidbey Island at which point a whale was seen feeding in the Shallows of Skagit Bay. We pushed onward to some deeper water and Captain Carl found us a gray whale off of Polnell Point. The whale ended up being CRC-2362 "Thidwick" making a feeding run along the beach before continuing west.
Shortly after rounding Strawberry Point, Captain Carl gave us a close encounter with some harbor porpoise before finding us another gray whale! It was a gray whale known as CRC-2246 "Azulāo", a newer whale to the area. We got a few magnificent looks at the whale before we continued to make our way home. Coming out of Deception Pass we got a fun little rodeo ride before making our way back to Anacortes!
