As we left the dock and the winds were hauling through the marina it had seemed that our luck might have been at its peak. We passed a few common loons as we wrapped around Cap Sante look out and made our way down Guemes Channel.
Before we even reached the end of the channel, a large male orca popped up off our bow. It was T49C "Janet/Nielson" and he was cruising solo with an eastbound heading that took us right back toward Cap Sante look out. With many beautiful looks we were able to spend some time with this gorgeous Bigg's orca whale and even watch him head in toward Hat Island for a possible quick meal.
We waved goodbye to him after a bit and went north to Vendovi Island where we found multiple bald eagles, both adult and juvenile, as well as, harbor seals, and a great blue heron. We cruised back down south, dodging through fields of crab pots and joining back up with Nielsen near the Saddle Bag Islands. It was a lucky find keeping us in decent seas and better weather, and getting us some great looks and whale time!
