We were lucky enough to get to welcome a new little calf into the world today. The T46Bs, a seemingly ever-growing family, had a new little babe in tow. It was tucked against Sedna’s (T46B3) side, and if confirmed to be hers, would be her first known offspring! Its fetal folds were still visible, indicating its newness. We encountered this group of eight just east of the Dungeness Spit Lighthouse, in wonderfully calm conditions.
On the cruise down, we’d stopped at Minor Island where dozens of harbor seals were hauled out, surf scooters were swimming offshore and a bald eagle watched over them all. On the return trip home, we stopped at Bird Rocks where we found a large Steller bull, many napping harbor seals, chatty black oyster catchers, black turnstones, a pair of Canada geese, cormorants, a pair of bald eagles and a sea otter grooming himself!
It was a beautiful and memorable day on the water!
