June 22, 2026 | 1 PM Whale Watch

Sunny skies and calm seas took us north today. Pigeon guillemots were all over the place as we worked our way up the eastern coast of Guemes Island towards Sinclair. Their little red feet glistened in the sunlight as they chased one another through the skies before plummeting back into the sea. Steller sea lions were snoozing atop a channel marker, or trying to at least. One large sea lion was floating nearby, scoping out the limited available hail out space. We watched in amazement as they tried several times to launch from the water, ultimately successfully finding a little corner of the marker to call their own. The activity sent the nesting pelagic cormorants flying.

As we neared Puffin Island, only dorsals rose fe the depths. The T123s and T124A2s were traveling as a tight knit group. They led us up into the Strait of Georgia, where we enjoyed a lovely encounter backed by the snow capped peaks of British Columbia.

On our return journey south, we slowed at Matia Island towards marvel at the sculpted sandstone where harbor seals were sunbathing and the old growth forest where bald eagles were perched. We even caught a glimpse of two river otters scurrying up the shoreline! At Puffin Island we checked out a bald eagle nest, its guardians in the nearby canopy.

Kulshan watched over us on our cruise home, her snow capped peak nothing short of breathtaking on this clear summers day.
