March 31, 2026 | 1 PM Whale Watch

With a common loon and a harbor seal bidding us farewell as we left the harbor, we headed out on yet another adventure. Making our way down Guemes channel, we began to hear many different reports in the surrounding area, and in no time at all Captain Carl had his sights set on one report coming from Saratoga passage. We cruised under Deception Pass Bridge, dodging logs and other floating debris, and spotted cormorants and guillemots flying all over the place.

Inside the pass we spotted a bald eagle perched high in the surrounding trees, surveying the waters below. We continued south on our search and as we passed Cama beach, dorsal fins and exhalations came into view. Once on scene we were able to confirm it was the T137 orca whale pod. Jack was back and the whole family was present! We got to spend some time with them as they searched the shore line for possible food.

Suddenly a large raft of California sea lions appeared and we were very anxious to see what might happen. The orcas did make a few sudden turns and as the sea lions swam quickly to the east the orcas turned right back toward them. By the time we left no signs of engagement were present and the sea lions were heading toward the safe shores of Baby Island.

On our return to Anacortes, we found a bald eagle floating on one of the many trees in Skagit bay before heading to Williamson Rock where we found a couple Steller sea lions and some harbor seals. It was a perfect way to finish the trip before heading back in to the dock!
