With a windier spring day among us, we headed north for the start of our trip and watched 3 great blue herons fly by before rounding Guemes Island and cruising the shoreline. Along the rocky cliffs we found a lot of pigeon guillemots and 5 bald eagles. We also found out that the nest on the backside of the island is active, and we saw an eagle feeding its young! Below the nest some happy looking harbor seals had found refuge on a few of the exposed rocks along the water.

We continued from there through Obstruction Pass and made our way west to Spieden Channel. Here we joined the T19 Bigg's orcas whales! It was worth the journey, especially when we get to see "Galiano", an orca whale to behold. We got many good looks at him and his pod as they were heading east.

After waving goodbye to the orcas we traveled up Presidents channel along the shores of Waldron Island. Along the way we found a few more bald eagles and a Steller sea lion! It is always a beautiful area to explore and today it was bustling with life. Making our way to Sucia, we cruised into the island's protected cove and found more harbor seals and other sea birds before heading back to the south. As we reached Cypress Island we spotted many more harbor porpoises before concluding our adventure. It's days like today that we are especially fond of the Island Explorer 5! Relief from the elements with our covered outdoor and heated indoor areas, and stability for walking around (even in wind and waves).
