Another gorgeous day in the Salish Sea with orca whales! This week has been a wild one with our 10-12 hr Extended Range Tour on Tuesday. Check out the April 22nd whale report to read about our adventure and encounter with 16 Bigg's killer whales. Our next extended tour is on June 20th and we still have spots available!
Today we resumed our signature 3-3.5 hr whale watching tours! Heading west we received reports of whales in Haro Strait and knew if things went our way, it'd be worth making the run west. Passing groups of rhinoceros auklets, pigeon guillemots, cormorants, and a very large group of Bonapartes gulls, we encountered the T90 pod of Bigg's just south of Henry Island.
T90, and her kids T90B, T90C, and T90D are better known as "Eagle", "Piglet", "Tigger", and "Kanga". We followed them south for some time and San Juan Island made for a beautiful backdrop. After lots of great looks, we made our turn and headed back up Haro Strait. We slowed down at Spieden Island to check out a few herds of mouflon sheep, some bald eagles, and a nice big group of Steller sea lions on Green Point. Returning to the east we had amazing views of Koma Kulshan (Mt.Baker) as well as the occasional bird and porpoise fly-by. It was an extremely beautiful day on the water!
