A beautiful spring Monday spent with Bigg's killer whales! During these spring months we have been seeing lots of orcas, gray whales, big Steller sea lion bulls, and harbor seals. Today we had an abudance of marine life on our signature 3-3.5 hr whale watch!
We started north with calm conditions. Even on a windier day, our 98 ft catamaran the Island Explorer 5 glides through the water and waves! Cruising through islands, we took in the scenery which during April includes lots of luscious greens and wildflowers. With reports of whales coming in, we soon met up with a pod of Bigg's killer whales! The group was traveling and there was a younger whale in the mix. We cruised with the pod for some time and got lots of great looks.
Continuing our adventure, we spotted quite a few harbor seals hauled out. They blend in well with their surrounding environment and some of them were looking plump (pupping season is approaching). On a channel marker, we stopped to admire more pinnipeds; Steller sea lions! There were four individuals piled on top of the marker enjoying the sunshine. It was a great day on the water and we are so excited for our 10-12 hr Extended Range tour tomorrow!
