With the mischievous holiday upon us and pranks in the air we cautiously headed out into the Salish Sea. We started our search north in Bellingham Channel and up into the Strait of Georgia. Along the way we spotted many pigeon guillemots, rhinoceros auklets, Brandt geese, and cormorants.
Our search took us to Puffin Island where we found a nesting bald eagle and its mate as well as a nice sized bob of harbor seals. We headed south from there down Rosario Strait, and after searching the Whidbey shoreline, a good report of killer whales had us zoom through Deception Pass to the waters near Oak Harbor.
Here we caught up with the T123 Biggs orca whales just after they finished a hunt and prey sharing event. We followed them for as long as we could before our time was up and we had to turn and come home. We had a marvelous encounter with the pod and got amazing looks at all four of them including Stanley's (T123As) massive fin. It was an amazing day and Captain Carl went the extra mile to get our folks some whales!
